Well my wreath is finished, I think! Do you have a hard time knowing when to stop, how much glitter to put on, does it need just one more button, sequin or bead. I do actually finish some projects (hands up who thought I didn't), like most crafters I have multiple projects on the go at the same time. Small ones that can be done quickly, some that take a few days, some that take a little longer and we all have at least one that's been on the go for years! In my case a sampler that says home sweet home, every so often I go back to it. There is no overall pattern, I just put things in I find in magazines or books that I like, it really is a 'sampler' of cross stitch.
But I have finished the wreath, it is hung up in the front room and I keep looking at it. Thinking does it need a trim to make it more even or does it need something adding to it. I had started to make a branch for my owl to sit on and I'm still not sure about whether it needs adding or not. That's what I mean about knowing when to stop, I'm the same when I make cards. I set out with a rough idea of what I want to do and then let the card evolve, sometimes when I have finished I look at it and think 'too much stuff on there Louise, you should have stopped five minutes ago'. So the wreath is in waiting, finished but not finished, I put an owl in the middle that was originally intended for another project, but it's detachable and might get replaced with something else more autumnal. Then I thought maybe I should make some leaves out of felt to dot around the edge. See what I mean, I don't think we ever truly finish our pieces we just get to a point where it's sort of there but not quite. To a non crafter that probably sounds silly, but I'm sure you understand, or I hope you do and it's not just me!
So on to the next project or two! Jessica's blanket is still going, I keep adding squares to the bag full I have already made. Every so often I lay them all out and see how big it is, but still a way to go yet. I made my son Michael one and it took ages, because I would get fed up of it and put it away for a while and then go back to it when I felt guilty about not finishing it. I also bought an art doll kit a while ago and haven't started that yet, so I think that's what will be next. I haven't made one before, although I have made soft toys before, but these are dolls for adults and are more pieces of art. I also have a list of Christmas things to make, but they are mainly small and can be fitted in between.
Today however I am going to get Jessica moving and teach her how to make a skirt. She has some lovely fabric from Carolyn's stall (Make Me Fabrics) and we finally have enough floor space to cut it out. We have an assistant when we are crafting, our tri-coloured collie Rugby. He has in his time been covered in glitter, fabric scraps and bits of paper as he insists on getting as close as possible to your feet when you are working. When we lay anything out on the floor he casually walks into the middle of it and lays down, I think it's his idea of helping!
So I had a little break half way through writing this to make my niece a birthday card and now have bright pink fingers because of the distress ink! I hope she likes it, it wasn't easy getting it to stick to the card base. It won't fit in an envelope though! I have got some plain gift bags so I'll have to put it in one of those. She loves making things as well and wants a sewing machine, she is 8 this time so I don't know what she's planning to make. She has made jewellery with her mum and every time she visits me she raids my craft stash. Carolyn has some lovely beads in at the minute for kids to craft with, they could make bracelets or sew them onto a picture they have drawn on a bit of fabric, calico is quite cheap . She has just a few metal rings left for wreath making as well, so someone must be making one as they have sold really well. Make sure you put your picture of the finished project on her Facebook page, Make Me Fabrics, it would lovely to see what other people make.
I am also putting some pictures on of my granny squares and a couple of blankets I have made in the past. I have only made blankets or small toys so far, even though I have crochet for years, but there are some nice patterns for clothes out there. My daughter has put in an order for a vest top she has seen, so that will have to go on the list! Carolyn also has some crochet hooks in now, if you have never crochet before check out the videos on You Tube they are quite easy to follow.
Well as this talking is fine, but if I don't get on Jessica won't get to make her skirt. I'll upload the photos separately (just in case I mess up!) and I hope you like what I have made. So goodbye for now and happy crafting,
Lots of love
Louise xx
